    What is Anjeer Barfi?

Anjeer is the Hindu word for dried figs and Burfi translates to dessert. This Barfi recipe is spiced with cinnamon, nutmeg, turmeric, and cardamom. There are no added sweeteners so you can consider it a healthy option.

Traditionally, Barfi's are made with lots of refined sugar and ghee. Rest assured, this is a wholesome recipe full of goodness.

These make a lovely snack any time of day, or you can prepare a batch as a gift for a friend.

Read all about Barfi's here. India has an incredible variety of traditional desserts.

    Ingredients for Anjeer Barfi

There are many different variations for Anjeer Barfi, depending on which part of India you are in.

    Dried Figs

This recipe only works with dried figs, not fresh figs. Remember to cut off the tip of the dried fig. These are not nice to eat!

If your dried figs are too dry, you can soak them in warm water for 10 minutes before making the recipe.

    Dates

Soft Medjool dates work best for a good barfi. If your dates are too dry, soak them in warm water for 10 minutes and drain them before making the recipe.

    Nuts

Cashews, hazelnuts, pistachio, almonds, pecan, or walnuts can be used in this recipe. Feel free to add whatever nuts are available to you.

    Spices

Cardamom is the traditional spice seasoning for Anjeer Barfi. I like to add a sprinkle of turmeric, cinnamon, and nutmeg.

    Oil

I use aromatic coconut oil in this recipe in place of the traditional ghee.

Here is the full list of ingredients for this recipe. The quantities are in the recipe card below...

If you do not have a blender, you can chop the nuts with a knife.
