Over the years, I've prepared countless variations of ginger shots - on retreats, in private kitchens, and now in our jungle studio in Phuket. This version is one of the purest: just three powerful ingredients. It's simple, effective, and packs the punch your immune system craves.

Why this Ginger Shot works

This ginger shot immunity booster is a powerful wellness tonic made with fresh ginger root, green apples, and lime or lemon. It's sharp, zesty, and naturally sweet - perfect for a morning kickstart or an afternoon lift.

Ginger is revered in holistic nutrition for its immune-strengthening and anti-inflammatory properties. When paired with vitamin C-rich citrus and the natural sweetness of apple, it becomes an invigorating elixir that's easy to make and enjoy at home.

Nutritional content

Each shot delivers a potent dose of goodness-enhancing nutrients:

  • Ginger: Contains gingerol, known for reducing inflammation and supporting the immune system.
  • Apple: Adds natural sweetness and polyphenols that help reduce oxidative stress.
  • Lime or Lemon: High in vitamin C, aids detoxification and enhances digestion.

No added sugars. Just three whole, fresh ingredients that support your body's natural defences.

How to make homemade Ginger Shots

Our preferred way is with a cold-pressed juicer, but you can also make it in a blender. Here are both methods for you.

Method 1: Ginger Shots with a juicer

  1. Wash all ingredients thoroughly.
  2. Cut apples and ginger into chunks.
  3. Peel lime or lemon.
  4. Run everything through the juicer.
  5. Stir the juice and pour into bottles.
  6. Store in the fridge and shake before each use.

Method 2: Ginger Shots with a blender

  1. Roughly chop the apples and ginger, peel the citrus.
  2. Add all ingredients to a blender with 100ml of water.
  3. Blend until smooth.
  4. Strain through a nut milk bag or fine sieve.
  5. Bottle and refrigerate.

What to serve with

  • Best taken on an empty stomach in the morning.
  • Pair with warm water or herbal tea to hydrate after.
  • Makes a great companion to our coconut chia pudding, fruit bowls, or light breakfast smoothies.

How to store Ginger Shots

  • Store in airtight glass bottles in the fridge for up to 5 days.
  • For batch-prepping, freeze in silicone ice cube trays and defrost one cube each morning.
  • Drop a frozen ginger shot ice cube into your fresh smoothies for an extra boost!

FAQ

Can I use lemon instead of lime?

Yes, both work beautifully. Lemon adds a slightly brighter acidity; lime gives a tropical zing. Choose what's available and suits your taste. Ginger and lemon shots are equally delicious and nutritious!

Is it too strong to drink daily?

This shot is potent, but safe for most people in moderation. Start with 30-50ml a day. If you're sensitive to ginger, try diluting it with water.

Can kids drink this?

It may be a bit intense for young children. If offering to kids, dilute the shot with extra apple juice or water.

Do I need a juicer to make this?

A juicer is ideal, but a blender and strainer will also work. The key is to extract a smooth, pulp-free liquid.

What apples can I use?

You can use any apples. I like Granny Smith or Golden Delicious apples. I also use locally available organic apples as much as possible.

Let's make some Ginger Shots!

This is one of my go-to juice recipes - simple, powerful, and made with just three fresh ingredients. It's far more cost-effective (and satisfying) to make your own at home, especially compared to store-bought versions that are often pasteurized and lower in nutrients. Let's get juicing…

Revitalising! I usually opt for lemons when juicing with ginger but after having tried your variation I can say it is definitely a tasty alternative that I will continue.

Hi Emily. Delighted you enjoyed the recipe. Yes indeed it works equally as well with lemons. Here in Thailand organic limes are in abundance. Both lemons and limes contain a great amount of vitamin C and anti-oxidants. Good health wishes 🙂
