This creamy tahini sauce is a versatile condiment that can be used in a variety of dishes. It can be used as a dip for vegetables, a spread for sandwiches or wraps, or a dressing for salads. It can also be used as a marinade for tofu or as a sauce for noodles or rice dishes.

The history of sesame seed tahini

The history of tahini dates back to ancient times. Sesame seeds were first cultivated in India over 5,000 years ago, and they were later introduced to the Middle East and Africa. The ancient Egyptians used tahini in their cuisine, and it was also used in the Greek and Roman empires. Today, tahini is still a popular ingredient in Middle Eastern and Mediterranean cooking, and it has also gained popularity all over the world.

What is tahini

Tahini is a condiment that has been used in Middle Eastern and Mediterranean cuisine for centuries. It is made from sesame seeds that have been roasted and ground into a paste.

Tahini sauce is so versatile and has a mild, nutty flavor that pairs well with a variety of other flavors. It also has a creamy texture that can add richness and depth to dishes. Additionally, tahini is a nutritious ingredient that is high in protein, healthy fats, and essential vitamins and minerals.

The health benefits of tahini sauce

Tahini is a nutritious condiment that is rich in healthy fats, protein, and essential vitamins and minerals. It is a good source of monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats, which can help reduce inflammation and improve heart health.

Tahini is also high in protein, making it a great source of plant-based protein for vegetarians and vegans. Additionally, tahini is a good source of vitamins and minerals, including calcium, iron, magnesium, and zinc, which are important for bone health and immune function.

How to make the creamy tahini sauce

One of the best ways to use tahini is to make a simple creamy tahini sauce. This sauce is made with white sesame seed tahini, garlic, lemon juice, cumin, and olive oil. It can be used as a dip, a spread, or a dressing.

Here is my simple recipe for tahini sauce.

Ingredients Equipment Method Nutrition

Ingredients

  • 200 ml White sesame tahini
  • 1 each Lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon Pink salt add to taste
  • 1 teaspoon Cumin powder
  • 50 ml Water - filtered more or less as needed

Equipment

  • Weighing scales
  • Mixing bowl
  • Whisk
  • Spoon
  • Storage container

Method

  1. Add the tahini, salt and cumin to the bowl.
  2. Whisk until the mixture is thoroughly blended.
  3. Add water 2 tablespoons at a time, whisking after each addition until smooth. (It may seize up, don't worry.) After about 6 tablespoons, you will have a perfectly creamy and smooth, light-colored tahini sauce.
  4. If desired, thin with additional water for a more drizzly sauce. Adjust if necessary-if you'd like more tang, add more lemon, or for more overall flavor, add another pinch of salt.
  5. Your tahini sauce is ready to serve!
