Where do macadamia nuts come from?

Macadamia nuts are native to Australia and grow on evergreen trees that can reach up to 40 feet in height. Macadamias are also grown in Hawaii, California, South Africa, Thailand, and other tropical and subtropical regions around the world.

Macadamia nuts are harvested year-round, but their peak season varies depending on the location. In Australia, the main harvest season runs from March to September, while in Hawaii, it typically runs from September to December.

These nuts have a hard, woody shell that needs to be cracked open to reveal the creamy white kernel inside. Once the shell is cracked, the kernel can be eaten raw or roasted, and it can also be used to make macadamia nut butter, oil, and milk.

Why make Macadamia Milk

Macadamia nuts are a very special ingredient. They are definitely on my top-3 favorite nut list! Yes, they are expensive since they are in short supply and high demand, but well worth the investment.

  • Dietary restrictions: For those who are lactose intolerant or have a dairy allergy, macadamia nut milk is a great alternative to dairy milk.
  • Health benefits: Macadamia nuts are a good source of healthy fats, protein, and vitamins and minerals such as vitamin E, magnesium, and calcium. By using macadamia nut milk instead of dairy milk or other plant-based milk, you can add these nutrients to your diet.
  • Environmental concerns: Many people are choosing to reduce their consumption of animal products for environmental reasons. Making your own plant-based milk, such as macadamia nut milk, is a sustainable and eco-friendly choice.
  • Flavor: Macadamia nut milk has a creamy and nutty flavor that is unique and delicious. It can add a rich and indulgent flavor to your favorite recipes, such as smoothies, coffee, and baked goods.
  • Cost benefits: Macadamia nuts are a premium product. Although they are a little expensive, by making milk you will get a high yield and boost the overall value perception of a dish on your menu by featuring 'homemade macadamia nut milk'
